Most buyers mistakenly assume any generic garden hose reel will handle the heavy, stiff material of a pool backwash hose. I have spent significant time evaluating the market to separate specialized gear from standard lawn equipment. My research highlights which designs actually manage the bulky diameter and unique weight of pool hoses. Read on to see which durable storage options deserve a spot in your pool shed.

1. Lass Enterprises Swimming Pool Backwash Discharge Hose Reel | Holds 100' of 1½" Hose | Orange | Backwash Hose Not Included
This unit earned the top spot because it solves the specific problem of coiling rigidity that plagues pool backwash hoses. Its open-frame design allows for airflow, which prevents the moisture buildup often found in enclosed boxes.
I find the 1.5-pound weight remarkable for its capacity. It offers a straightforward approach to maintenance that I believe most pool owners will appreciate for its simplicity.
Buyers frequently mention that the lightweight construction makes moving it around the pool deck incredibly easy.
The design is praised for its ability to hold the full 100 feet of hose without buckling under the weight.
It is widely considered the standard for those who need a dedicated, no-nonsense storage tool.

2. Aqua Select Hose Storage Reel | For Swimming Pool Cleaner and Vacuum Hoses | Holds Up To 45 ft Hoses (Not Included) | Storing VacTubes | Pool Cleaning and Maintenance
This reel is best for the homeowner who wants a quick setup for standard vacuum hoses without dealing with complex wall mounts. It caters to those who prioritize speed and efficiency above all else during their weekly cleaning routine.
In my view, the compatibility with both 1-1/4 inch and 1-1/2 inch hoses is a major advantage. It ensures that you do not need to replace your storage solution if you upgrade your pool cleaner.
Users report that the assembly process is exceptionally fast, usually taking under five minutes.
The reel receives positive feedback for how it effectively prevents the kinks that shorten the life of expensive vacuum hoses.
It is a popular choice for above-ground pool owners looking for a compact organization method.

3. Feherguard Swimming Pool Vacuum Hose Storage Reel
The most interesting feature here is the versatile capacity that allows it to hold either a 40-foot vacuum hose or a much longer 100-foot backwash hose. This dual-purpose capability makes it a clever choice for those with limited shed space.
I appreciate that this is designed for fixed wall mounting. It gets the clutter off the ground, which keeps your pool area looking much more professional.
Many owners highlight that the wall mount creates a cleaner, more organized aesthetic for their backyard.
There is a consensus that the unit feels very secure once it is properly attached to the wall.
Some buyers note that the assembly requires a bit of patience, but the final result is well worth the effort.

4. Vacuum Hose Reel
The most common complaint involves the assembly process, as some users find the snap-together plastic components feel less than robust. However, if you are working with a strict budget, the low price point usually outweighs these minor construction concerns.
I think this represents a fair trade-off for someone who needs a basic storage solution without unnecessary frills. It does the job of keeping the hose off the grass, which is the primary goal after all.
Buyers often recommend this for those who do not want to invest heavily in pool equipment storage.
The high-density resin construction is noted for being surprisingly resistant to outdoor conditions.
Many users appreciate the generous capacity for up to 150 feet of backwash hose.

5. Homeon Wheels Cord Storage Reel with Handle Driven Easy to Use,Holds up to 135 feet
When you compare this to the budget reel mentioned previously, the handle-driven mechanism here feels significantly smoother and more refined. It is the logical choice if you need to manage long, flexible items beyond just pool hoses, like extension cords or heavy rope.
I believe the tactical-level durability makes this a great investment for those who are hard on their equipment. It manages to stay lightweight while providing a surprisingly strong center handle for control.
Owners consistently mention how the manual handle makes the reeling process much faster than hand-wrapping.
The reel is highly rated for its versatility, working just as well for holiday lights as it does for pool gear.
Many appreciate the compact footprint, which makes it easy to tuck away in a garage corner.

6. Suncast 225 ft. Smart Tube Hose Reel Hideaway, Garden Hose Holder, Brown | Made in the USA Resin Hose Reel Box with Smart Trak Guide for Garden and Lawn, Fits Up to 225 Ft 5/8 Inch Standard Vinyl Hose
This became popular due to its sleek, wicker-style aesthetic that hides the hose from view entirely. While it looks great, I would caution that this is designed primarily for garden hoses, meaning the thicker pool vacuum hoses might be a tight fit.
If you value curb appeal and a tidy yard, the hideaway design is hard to beat. It is a fantastic example of form meeting function in a garden setting.
Users often praise the Smart Trak guide for its ability to prevent the hose from tangling during use.
The resin construction is frequently noted for its ability to withstand harsh weather without fading or cracking.
Many buyers love that it arrives fully assembled and ready for immediate placement on a patio.

Choosing Between Them
I recommend the Lass Enterprises Backwash Hose Reel as the best overall choice because it handles the specific demands of pool maintenance with ease. If you have a vacuum hose, the Aqua Select Hose Storage Reel is ideal for standard use, while the Feherguard is perfect for those who prefer a permanent wall-mounted setup. For general utility, the Homeon Wheels reel provides great flexibility, whereas the Suncast Hideaway remains the superior option for those prioritizing backyard aesthetics.
You should be aware that most of these products require you to provide your own mounting hardware or tools for assembly. Choosing the right reel depends entirely on whether you value portability and capacity or a hidden, permanent installation. Always check your hose diameter before buying, as some of these reels are optimized for specific pool equipment rather than garden-grade vinyl.
